Davidson River, Pisgah National Forest

Early March can be tough on the Davidson, but so can April, May, and June.  I spent two days in the forest and landed many nice fish.  Midges were buzzing around all day, and small Blue Quills and parachute BWO’s were effective.  Subsurface, black Zebra midges size 18-22 seemed attractive to the browns.  Also, cream midges size 24 took their share of trout.  Keep in mind long leaders and delicate presentation are key.  For tall folks like me, kneeling or crouching helps considerably.
